H.S. Basketball: Local trio named to TABC all-state teams

A trio of area boys’ basketball players were honored this week with spots on the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) all-state teams.

Cayuga senior Preston Anderson and Grapeland junior Patrick Walker were both named to the Class 1A, Division I team, while Oakwood junior Damiyne Durham was named to the 1A, Division II team.

Anderson, a University of Hartford (Conn.)-commit, averaged more than 23 points per game this past season, leading the Wildcats to an unbeaten district record and a fourth-straight district title.

Walker, the District 20-A MVP, averaged 23.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, seven assists and five steals for the Sandies, who advanced to the regional final before falling to San Augustine.

Durham also led his team to the regional finals after averaging 27.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game during the regular season. The Panthers fell to Douglass in the regional final.


Along with his all-state nod, Durham was named the Most Valuable Player of District 25-A, Division II after his stellar season.

He was one of five Oakwood players honored on the team released this week.

Earning first team honors were Bryson Randle and Jacquez Anderson, while Shaquille Caldwell and Dominique Johnson were both named to the second team.

Douglass’ Reed Westbrook was named the district’s Offensive Player of the Year, while Laneville’s Ty Johnson was named Defensive POY.
