The Oakwood Panthers fell against the Laneville Yellowjackets on Saturday, 77-69, in game three of their meetings this season.
In the first two meetings, the teams split the outcomes, each winning at home. The third meeting, this time in the Regional Finals in New Braunfels, was just as intense.
The Panthers started out sluggish scoring just 10 points in the first quarter, while Laneville put up 20 and headed into the second quarter with the 10-point advantage.
Oakwood came storming back in the second quarter as the Panthers outscored Laneville 19-10.
At halftime, Oakwood’s scoring leaders were Damiyne Durham with 16 points and nine rebounds, Dominique Johnson with seven points and five rebounds, Jordan Hawkins with three points and four boards and Jacquez Anderson with three points and two boards. Durham had 12 of the Panthers’ 19 points in the second quarter.
Coming out of halftime, Laneville came out hot again as Oakwood was outscored 24-12. That deficit would prove to be insurmountable as play moved on to the fourth quarter with the Panthers down 54-41.
In the fourth quarter, Durham scored 11 points and led the Panthers on a comeback, as they were able to get the deficit down to five points.
But, with Oakwood’s only option being to foul, the Panthers weren’t able to get any closer and ultimately lost to the Yellowjackets.
Top scorers for the Panthers in the match were Durham with 33 points and 15 rebounds, Anderson with 20 points and four rebounds, Johnson with 11 points and nine boards and Hawkins who finished with five points and five boards.
