SLOCUM 60, Broaddus 23
The third-ranked Slocum girls’ basketball team ended 2012 the way it should have expected to: With an easy victory.
The Lady Mustangs topped visiting Broaddus, 60-23, Monday, ending the calendar year at 19-1. Slocum’s lone loss came to Class 2A White Oak in the quarterfinals of the Tenaha Holiday Hoops tournament.
Jordan Ives had a game-high 19 points for Slocum, while Valerie Larkin added 14 as the duo outscored Broaddus on their own.
Landry Lane added seven points in the victory, while Kelsee Webb had six.
The Lady Mustangs open district play in Latexo Friday, with games beginning at 5 p.m.
Brownsboro 42, WESTWOOD 40
WESTWOOD 53, Van 43
The Westwood girls’ basketball team went 1-1 at the Brownsboro doubleheader over the holiday break, falling to the host Lady Bears, 42-40, last Thursday and topping Van, 53-43, Friday.
In the loss to Brownsboro, Mi’Kayla Benson had 13 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. Marialle Boles had a big game inside, scoring 11 points and pulling down 15 rebounds.
Natali Muniz added seven points in the loss.
In the win over the Lady Vandals, Benson again led the way with 14 and was one of three Lady Panthers in double-figures scoring.
Muniz had 12 points in the win, while Boles added 10 for Westwood, which also got eight points from Shavon Nauls and seven from Jemelia Thomas.
Westwood (12-11, 2-1) travels to Central Heights Friday, with games beginning at 5 p.m.
