The Elkhart boys basketball team got back to its winning ways Tuesday, jumping out big early and then holding off a late charge from Garrison to earn a 65-58 road win.
The win was a bounce-back for the Elks, who fell to Crockett Friday in a battle for second-place in District 19-2A. The Elks get a tough test at home Friday, when they welcome in district-leading Westwood.
The Elks led Garrison 36-25 at the half and extended that lead to 48-33 heading into the fourth quarter. But, the Bulldogs scored 25 points in the final frame to make things interesting.
Luke Hollingsworth led Elkhart with 18 points, while Cole Bridges had 16 and Jacob Cheatham had 15. Jeffrey Wilson added 11 for the Elks (11-11, 5-2).
Games Friday begin at 4 p.m.
SLOCUM 55, Latexo 32
The Slocum boys basketball team evened its district record at 2-2 Tuesday with a 55-32 defeat of Latexo.
The Mustangs got 16 points from Lane Shugart in the win, as the Mustangs blew things open in the second and third quarters.
After trailing 9-8 after the first, Slocum outscored Latexo 38-14 over the game’s middle two frames to put things away.
Connor Dickson added 11 points in the win for Slocum (6-18, 2-2), while Nathan Edwards had nine.
The Mustangs host Lovelady Friday, with games beginning at 5 p.m.
