H.S. GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lovelady 51, CAYUGA 50
The Lovelady girls defeated the Cayuga Wildcats 51-50 in overtime Tuesday in Lovelady.
The score was tied 25-25 at halftime and tied 43-43 at the end of regulation.
Cayuga girls play Slocum at 5 p.m. Friday.
H.S. BOYS BASKETBALL
WESTWOOD 69, Groveton 37
The Westwood Panthers ran over Groveton 69-37 Tuesday to open up district play in Groveton.
Westwood led 41-13 at the half, keeping its lead to defeat the team.
Westwood’s L.J. Hutchison made 15 points. Coby Newton and Jerry Turner each added 11 points. Chris Thompson added 10 and Sam Carlisle added 9.
Westwood is now 9-5 overall and 1-0 in district. Westwood will play Elkhart at home Friday.
CAYUGA 90, Lovelady 71
The Cayuga Wildcats defeated Lovelady 90-71 Tuesday in Lovelady.
The teams were close in the first quarter, 17-14 Cayuga, but Cayuga ended with a 12-point lead at the half. Cayuga’s fourth quarter 28 points helped seal the win.
Cayuga’s Preston Anderson made four 3-pointers, while Chandler Rigdon added three 3-pointers.
Cayuga’s Friday game has been moved. Cayuga will play Athens at home Friday. JV will start at 1 p.m. with varsity scheduled to start around 2:30 p.m.
All Saints 131, SLOCUM 84
All Saints climbed over Slocum for a 131-84 victory Monday at Slocum.
At the half, All Saints led 42-22, sealing the game in the third quarter with a 80-45 lead.
Slocum’s Bowman scored 21 points.
CAYUGA 85, Wascom 58
Preston Anderson’s 30 points — including a triple double — helped lead the Cayuga Wildcats over Wascom 85-58 Saturday in the Central Heights basketball tournament.
Also scoring in double digits for Cayuga were Chandler Rigdon with 20 points and Deon Shofner with 17.
San Augustine 80, CAYUGA 74
Cayuga High School lost its first game of the day Friday during the Central Heights basketball tournament.
San Augustine won 80-74, keeping the lead at the half at 38-33. In the third quarter, Cayuga caught up, bringing the score to 52-48. San Augustine sealed the game in the final quarter, scoring an additional 28 points to Cayuga’s 26.
Cayuga’s Chandler Rigdon scored 29 points, Preston Anderson made 22 and Deon Shofner added 18.
Rigdon and Anderson both had three 3-pointers as well.
San Augustine is ranked 10th in the state in Class 1A, Division I.
CAYUGA 73, Rusk 45
Cayuga High School boys won its second game of the day Friday during the Central Heights basketball tournament.
Cayuga took the lead in the first quarter with a 23-2 score, ending with a 73-45 victory.
Cayuga’s Chandler Rigdon scored 21 points, Preston Anderson added 19 and Deon Shofner added 16.
Rigdon and Anderson both had two 3-pointers, and Trey Howard and Braden Walthall each contributed one.
GRAPELAND 49, Westwood 41
Visitor Grapeland High School defeated home team Westwood 49-41 Friday.
At the half, Westwood trailed by only one point with a 23-22 score but in the third quarter Grapeland moved forward with a 37-23 lead that they kept throughout the rest of the game.
Westwood’s Jacobi Newton scored 14 points, with J.J. Turner adding five and Dra Ross and L.J. Hutchinson bringing in six each.
SLOCUM 174, Chireno 165
In a high-scoring game Friday, the Slocum Mustangs defeated Chireno 174-165 at Slocum High School.
The score was tied 53-53 at the half with Slocum’s three points at the end of the third quarter at 106-103. Slocum pulled ahead another nine points in the final quarter for the victory.
Slocum’s Jason Neal made 26 points, with McDonald adding 13 and Nathan Edwards adding 11.

H.S. Basketball: Westwood drops a close game to the No. 10 San Augustine Wolves on Thursday night, 63-54
On Thursday night, the Westwood Panthers’ boys basketball team took on the No. 10 team in Class 1A DI and fought hard.
Although the Panthers lost to San Augustine 63-54, there was much improvement from the game at home against Oakwood Tuesday.
H.S. Basketball: Cayuga Ladycats split Thursday's games in the Frankston Tournament
The Ladycats played in two games in the first day of action in the Frankston basketball tournament on Thursday.
In the first matchup, the Ladycats fell for the second time on the season to LaPoynor, 42-32.
H.S. Basketball: The Lady Mustangs of Slocum improve their season record as they beat Frankston on Tuesday night
The Slocum Lady Mustangs squared off against Division 2A Frankston Indians at Slocum HS on Tuesday night and came away with a victory, winning 64-49.
Slocum played their best basketball of the season in the first quarter, taking an 18-5 lead before Frankston could turn up their defense.

The Westwood Lady Panthers improve on the season as they came away with a 44-39 win against Athens on Tuesday night.
H.S. Basketball: Oakwood's Damiyne Durham scores 34 points to lead them to a victory against Westwood
In a battle of two Dogwood Circle teams, Oakwood prevailed as the better Panther team for the night. Lead scorer and Baylor commit Damiyne Durham led the way for the Oakwood Panthers on Tuesday night in the varsity boys game against the Westwood Panthers in a 91-64 affair.
H.S. Basketball: Cayuga Ladycats move on to 3-1 for the season after beating Buffalo 58-35
Madison Spears led the Ladycats in a 58-35 victory against Buffalo on Tuesday night in Cayuga. Spears’ 33 points led the Ladycats, but she didn’t do it on her own. Ally Jenkins finished the night with nine points also and Cayuga’s defense held strong throughout the night especially in the third quarter.

Three Dogwood Circle volleyball players have been named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Volleyball Team for 2013.
19-2A All-District Volleyball team named
The Dogwood Circle's Westwood and Elkhart volleyball teams dominated the 19-2A district selections for All-District this year.
UIL realignment includes addition of another class
The state of Texas is making big changes to its UIL classification system, adding another conference to list and eliminating (or renaming) the six-man football division as Class 1A.
