Local Roundup: Palestine boys win Madisonville track meet

The Palestine boys’ won yet another track meet last week, capturing the title at Madisonville’s meet behind more dominance from the team’s distance runners.

Mason Munoz won both the 1,600 meters and the 800 meters, with Tyler Barnard finishing second in the 1,600. Barnard also won the 3,200 meters, with Denis Quincin finishing third.

Johnnie Dean finished third in the 800 meters, while also finishing second in the 400 meters and third in the triple jump.

Palestine’s Jadarrius Beasley swept the 100 and 200 meters, while Tony Butler won the high jump.

Jose Romero captured gold for Palestine in the 110-meter hurdles and earned a bronze in the 300-meter hurdles. Elkhart’s Gage Smock was third in the 110s.

Walter Sheridan gave Palestine two more top-three finishes, as the senior won silver in the discuss and bronze in the shot put.

Palestine also won 4-by-400-meter relay to finish off the night, giving Palestine 169 total points at the meet.

Grapeland won the 4-by-100-meter relay event, while Elkhart’s Kevin Kidd captured gold in the long jump. Elkhart’s Hunter Parker finished third in the pole vault.

On the girls’ side, the Elkhart girls’ team continued its hot start to the 2013 season, finishing second at Madisonville to Class 3A Fairfield.

Paige Fillmore gave Elkhart a gold-medal finish in the 300-meter hurdles, while finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles.

Chasity Chambless also won a gold for the Lady Elks, winning the Pole Vault.

Grapeland finished second in both the 4-by-100-meter and 4-by-200-meter relays, while Elkhart was third in the night’s finale, the 4-by-400-meter relay.

Ruth Camp finished second for the Lady Elks in the high jump, as did Tiffany Rosas in the 400 meters. Tracey Clewis earned a third-place finish in the shot put.

 Paige Scott finished third for Grapeland in the 200 meters.
