H.S. Baseball: Roundups: Cayuga and Elkhart keep playoff hopes alive and well

PALESTINE —

The Cayuga Wildcats had a strong outing on Friday night as they demolished the LaPoynor Flyers, 12-0 at home.

The Wildcats’ pitcher Colton Daniels threw a big game for Cayuga as he went all four innings in the run-rule game, and he threw a no-hitter with four strike outs.

Cayuga got the game started early as it jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

After the defense held LaPoynor to another scoreless half inning in the second, the offense exploded for the Wildcats in the bottom half of the inning.

An 11-run inning sparked the Wildcats to bring the score to 12-0, which would prove to be plenty for the win.

In that inning, Lane Brogdon got a majority of the runs as he had the bases loaded when he came up to bat. He then smashed a grand slam over the fences, which gave the Wildcats four of their 11 runs.

Payton Wallace also played a big factor for the Wildcats as he went 3-for-3 with two RBI’s on the night.

ELKHART

The Elkhart Elks defeated Groveton in a 4-3 victory Friday for a huge district game with playoff implications.

The Elks came out and scored two runs in the first inning and added to that lead in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Groveton managed to close the lead to 4-3 but the Elks were able to hold them off and record the victory.

The Elks improve to 13-12 on the season and 5-5 in district to help keep their playoff hopes alive.
