The annual FCA “Heart of a Champion” Bowl in Tyler Saturday will have a decidedly local flavor to it.
Five local players were among the almost 100 chosen to play in the game, which honors the best high school seniors from a 25-county area in Northeast Texas.
Palestine senior and future Tyler Junior College player Ivory Brown will represent the Wildcats in the game, while both Seth Hollingsworth and Jon-Michael Gordon will represent Elkhart.
All three of those players will represent the blue team, coached by Harmony’s Tim Russell and other area coaches including Robert E. Lee coach Darrell Piske.
Frankston do-it-all back Caleb Williams and Grapeland’s Daniel Vasquez will play on the red team, coached by Van’s Jared Moffatt and a staff of other area coaches, including John Tyler’s Ricklan Holmes.
More than 175 players were nominated for spots in the game, which is open only to high school seniors.
The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Mother Francis Rose Stadium (700 Fair Park Drive, Tyler, Texas 75701). Pre-game events begin at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the gate.
