H.S. Basketball: Boys and girls Dogwood Circle teams announced

PALESTINE —

Each year, the Palestine Herald-Press selects the “All-Dogwood Circle” team based on nominations from coaches in the Dogwood Circle.

 

This year for basketball, both boys and girls, each team in the area had great seasons with Grapeland’s boys team making it to the state tournament.

 

Below are the Dogwood Circle awards for this season, starting with the boys.

 

Co-Players of the Year go to Grapeland’s Patrick Walker and Oakwood’s Damiyne Durham. Most Improved Player goes to Frankston’s Kendrick Rogers. Offensive MVP goes to Westwood’s J.J. Turner. Defensive MVP goes to Frankston’s Ozzie Buckner. Newcomer of the Year goes to Frankston’s Gunnar Murphy. And finally, Coach of the Year goes to Grapeland’s Owen Clifton.

 

On the first team of the “All-Dogwood Circle” team is Grapeland’s Patrick Walker, Oakwood’s Damiyne Durham, Frankston’s Kenrick Rogers, Cayuga’s Chris Wilson and Grapeland’s Jacolby Simpson.

 

On the second team of the “All-Dogwood Circle” team is Westwood’s J.J. Turner, Frankston’s Ozzie Buckner and Caleb Whitehurst, Cayuga’s Colten Hearrel and Frankston’s Gunnar Murphy. Honorable mentions include Cayuga’s Jacob Grasch, Grapeland’s Jaques Faulk, Shawn Walker and Dominic Decello.

 

For the girls side, below are the awards given to the athletes who competed this year.

 

Player of the Year goes to Neches’ Kelsee Wade. Most Improved Player goes to Westwood’s Alexis Hatten. Offensive MVP goes to Grapeland’s C’ymone Davis. Defensive MVP goes to Frankston’s Chasity Cooper. Newcomer of the Year goes to Cayuga’s Kathleen Lackey. And Coach of the Year goes to Slocum’s Miranda Lasiter.

 

On the first team of the girls “All-Dogwood Circle” team is Neches’ Kelsee Wade, Cayuga’s Madison Spears, Grapeland’s C’ymone Davis, Westwood’s Mi’Kayla Benson and Frankston’s Chasity Cooper.

 

On the second team of the “All-Dogwood Circle” team is Westwood’s Natali Muniz, Neches’ McKay-Lee Chapman and Kamry Kinder, Frankston’s Latesha Gray and Palestine’s Kierra Wilson. Honorable mentions include Cayuga’s Kathleen Lackey and Westwood’s Alexis Hatten and Jemelia Thomas.
