H.S. Football: Elkhart's Wilson receives fourth offer

Elkhart running back Jeffrey Wilson now has his number up to four.

The Elks’ senior-to-be received an offer from Texas State University on Wednesday. He has already received offers from New Mexico State, the University of North Texas and the University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM).

The Texas State program had a decent season last year, going 4-8 in its inaugural season as a Football Subdivision school (FBS). Last season, Texas State rushed for a total of 2,152 yards, which put them at No. 54 among the 124 FBS schools, according to ESPN.com

With the addition of Wilson, those numbers could rise. Wilson rushed for more than 2,300 yards by himself in 2012 as the Elks’ main offensive weapon.

Of course, as with every big decision in life, Wilson said he aims to remain calm about the situation and make the best choice for him.

“Really, right now, I’m just going to take it day-by-day,” Wilson told the Herald-Press in May. “(I’ll) talk to my family about it and evaluate every college and see which one I will benefit from in the future.”

Wilson will be a key piece to the success of Elkhart this season, as the Elks look to improve upon the 2-8 season they had last year.

Wilson was a second team all-state selection by the Associated Press in 2012, and was named a pre-season first team all-stater by both Texas Football Magazine and The Old Coach’s Friday Night Football magazine.
