H.S. Football: ULM offers Palestine's Owens, Luckett

The University of Louisiana at Monroe is continuing to make its mark on the recruiting landscape of Anderson County.

Earlier this month, the Warhawks were the first school to offer Elkhart running back Jeffrey Wilson a football scholarship. Now, they’ve targeted two of Palestine’s finest.

ULM offered both Jarrell Owens and Ben Luckett from Palestine Thursday. It’s the second official offer for Owens and the first for Luckett.

Owens received his first offer — from Texas Tech — earlier this month. The senior-to-be is expected to be a highly-coveted recruit as a linebacker after a standout performance at the Rivals/Under Armor camp in Houston last month.

Owens junior season was limited due to injuries, though he did score eight touchdowns on the ground for the Wildcats as they made the playoffs for the second-straight season.

Luckett ran for more than six yards per carry in 2012 while scoring seven touchdowns, despite splitting time at running back with Owens and seniors Jadarrius Beasley and Darrius Stephens.

The Warhawks were 8-5 a year ago, and played in the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl, where they were defeated by Ohio University. ULM opened the 2012 season with an upset win over then eighth-ranked Arkansas.
