— The Elkhart softball team made a statement Tuesday in its District 19-2A opener, topping 12th-ranked Central Heights, 4-2.

Courtney Cheatham finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Elks, while Megan Davis finished 2-for-4 and Alicia Lipscomb was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Catie Bridges picked up the win inside the circle for Elkhart, while also finishing 1-for-3 at the plate. Overall, Elkhart got hits from five different players in the victory.

The Lady Elks (7-6, 1-0) head to Corsicana beginning today for the Lady Tigers’ tournament.

FRANKSTON 10, Mt. Enterprise 9

Trailing 9-4 heading into the final inning, the Frankston baseball team knew it needed an offensive explosion to at least extend Tuesday’s game against Mount Enterprise.

It got just that, and didn’t extend the game, but effectively ended it.

Waylon Morris hit a three-run home run in that fateful seventh inning as the Indians beat Mount Enterprise, 10-9.

Jordan Thomas singled to open the seventh, followed by a double from Hunter Mewbourn. Both came home just ahead of Morris after his blast.

Mewbourn and Gage Hart each had two hits and two RBI in the victory, with Hart getting the win on the mound after pitching a scoreless sixth inning in relief of Thomas.

Morris then got the save, pitching a scoreless seventh to close things out.

Frankston heads to Arp for the Tigers’ tournament beginning today and running through Saturday.
