In only their first-year of play, the Anderson County Roughnecks are playoff-bound.
The Roughnecks held off South Division-rival Temple, 23-12, Sunday, sewing up the division title and a spot in the league’s postseason in the process.
Even better, the Roughnecks secured the playoff-spot in the team’s home finale, in front of its home fans.
Tevin Watson led the offense at quarterback, passing for 111 yards and three touchdowns on 5-of-7 passing. Leon Mickens caught four passes for 97 yards and two scores.
Terrance Henry added 40 yards and a touchdown on three catches, while D.J. Morrow led the rushing attack with 69 yards on 10 carries.
Greg Estes paced the Roughneck defense, adding a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery to his four tackles.
Anderson County (7-1) has two games remaining in the regular season, both on the road. The Roughnecks travel to Austin Sunday to take on the ATX Tigers at 4 p.m. at Yellowjacket Stadium (3200 Hargrave, Austin).
