The three biggest schools in the area team up once again beginning Thursday for the Howard Estes Memorial Baseball tournament.
The event, which is co-hosted by Elkhart, Palestine and Westwood, kicks off with a trio of games at noon Thursday.
In Elkhart, the third-ranked Elks — complete with a full compliment of players — host Rusk, while at Westwood, the Panthers (0-1) take on 3A Groesbeck.
At Palestine, Athens and Center kick things off at noon, with the host Wildcats not playing until 5 p.m., when they take on Crockett.
Elkhart also plays Ganado at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at home, and Westwood follows its game with Groesbeck immediately with a 3:30 p.m. first pitch against Center.
Elkhart is in Pool A with Rusk, Madisonville and Ganado, while Palestine, Athens, Center and Crockett make up Pool B. Westwood, Groesbeck and Brownsboro are in Pool C.
Games continue Friday, with Elkhart taking on Madisonville at 2:30 p.m., Palestine playing Center at 2:30 p.m. and Athens at 5 p.m., and Westwood taking on Brownsboro at 5:30 p.m.
Bracket play begins Saturday, with the winner from each group along with second-place team with the best record playing in the “Winner’s Bracket” in Elkhart.
The fifth through eighth seeds will play bracket games at Palestine, while the rest of the bracket games are played at Westwood.
