H.S. Roundups: Cayuga and Elkhart baseball keep rolling against tough teams

PALESTINE —

A 15-5 run-rule win for the Cayuga Wildcats baseball team against LaPoynor Thursday keeps it ahead of the competition moving forward.

After a rough 1-0 start for the Wildcats, they jump started their offense in the second and third innings.

A six-run second inning and seven-run third inning were lead by performances from Jason Johnson who went 2-3 with two walks, three runs and five RBIs and John Vickery who went 3-4 with a walk, a run and four RBIs.

The 13-3 lead after the third inning would prove to be enough for the Wildcats after both teams scored two more each ending in the result.

Johnson also was the starting pitcher for the Wildcats in this matchup. He had two earned runs against him and one unearned run, but he struck out six batters on the day in LaPoynor.

ELKHART

The Elkhart Elks have been on a hot streak recently, including a win on Tuesday against the Westwood Panthers in their second district game, winning 12-2. The Elks are now sitting at 8-8 on the season with a 1-1 district record.

During last weekend's tournament play (The I-20 Classic), the Elks opened up against Bullard and beat them 7-6 in the bottom of the last inning. Next, the Elks played Kilgore, winning 5-4, and then played Van and won 7-4. Their final game was against Wills Point, which Elkhart won 5-3.

The Elks’ next matchup is today on the road at Woden.
