Among the seven competitors from the Dogwood Circle in the Women’s Powerlifting State Championships, only one made it all the way to the top.
Frankston junior Raven Paul repeated her performance from last season and finished as the top powerlifter in Class 2A in the 220-plus pound weight class.
“Coming off her win last year, she was expected to win again this year, and that’s what she did,” Frankston powerlifting coach Cody Day said. “After squats, she was sitting on third place, and we knew she still had to perform well to take home that top spot. She ended up with 1,190 total pounds, which had her winning by 50 pounds.
“She’s just a nice, sweet girl who is an incredible athlete,” Day added. “When she has a chance to do something like this, it’s great for her. She did well, and we’re proud of her.”
Paul squatted 485 pounds, bench pressed 275 pounds and dead lifted 430 pounds.
Her performance led all others in the weight class to give her the win.
Other Dogwood Circle powerlifters in the event were Cayuga’s Harley Mingus who placed 10th in the 97-pound weight class and Shaina Stotts who placed fifth in the 198-pound weight class for Class 1A, Elkhart’s Chassity Chambless who bombed out of the 132-pound weight class for Class 2A, Westwood’s Ty’Eesha Dawkins who bombed out of the 220-pound weight class for Class 2A and Palestine’s Mallorie Sander who bombed out of the 123-pound weight class in Class 3A and Lacey Tillis who placed third in the 198-pound weight class in Class 3A.
