The Ladycats played in two games in the first day of action in the Frankston basketball tournament on Thursday.
In the first matchup, the Ladycats fell for the second time on the season to LaPoynor, 42-32.
In that game, the Ladycats got down early and couldn’t come back. At halftime, the Ladycats were down 20-15 and the third quarter left them wanting more. Cayuga was outscored 16-7 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Scorers in the first game were Ally Jenkins with 10, Kathleen Lackey had nine, Madison Spears had eight, Presley Luce finished the night with 2 points, as well as Paige Boxie with 2 and Grace Ann Kelly had 1 point.
The second game against Arp put the Ladycats in a more favorable position as they won the match 68-39.
Cayuga came out quickly in the first half as it went to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter of play. The Ladycats (4-2) kept the pressure up in the second quarter as they scored another 20-spot on the Lady Tigers as they put up 22 to Arp’s nine points to bring the halftime score to 42-19.
The third quarter showed a great defensive battle as both teams were held to just under 10 points for the quarter; Cayuga finished the quarter with 9 and Arp had 8.
The fourth quarter was the finishing stride the Ladycats needed to put a cap on the victory as they outscored Arp, 17-12.
Lackey and Spears led the way in points scoring 22 and 17, respectively.
Cayuga is set to play today at 2:30 p.m., weather permitting.
