The Westwood girls basketball team is headed to the postseason.
The Lady Panthers got 27 points from Marialle Boles en route to a 70-16 rout of visiting Garrison Tuesday. That win, coupled with Crockett’s 50-29 win over Woden, clinched third-place in District 19-2A for the Lady Panthers.
Westwood will face Woodville in its first playoff appearance in 17 years.
Boles pulled down seven rebounds to go along with her big scoring night, and Westwood got 12 points from Mi’Kayal Benson and 10 from Nekeisha Nauls in the victory.
Shavon Nauls added nine for the Lady Panthers, who wrap up the regular season with a 17-13 record and an 8-4 mark in district.
PHS GIRLS PLAY-IN GAME
The Palestine girls’ basketball team will take on Groesbeck at 5 p.m. Saturday for the right to advance to the postseason.
The Ladycats and Lady Goats both finished the season 3-5 in 19-3A play, with each squad winning their matchup against each other at home.
Saturday’s game will be in Fairfield, with the winner moving on to face Central Pollok in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
If that winner is Palestine, the game will be either Monday or Tuesday in Rusk.
PYAA baseball/softball sign-ups
The Palestine Youth Athletic Association (PYAA) will hold its final sign-up for the 2013 baseball and softball seasons Saturday at PYAA complex.
That sign-up will be held from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The league’s tryout date is set for Feb. 16, also at the complex.
PHS baseball alumni game
The Palestine baseball program will host its second annual alumni game Saturday.
The game will be held at Wildcat Field, and will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a home run derby, followed by the game.
The cost to play in the game is $20 and includes a t-shirt and lunch. It’s an additional $10 to participate in the home run derby.

’Yuga Fun Run
The Cayuga boys basketball and baseball teams will host their fourth annual Yuga Run Saturday. The event is a 5K fun run, with proceeds benefiting the two teams.
The race begins at 9 a.m. at Cayuga High School.
Registration forms can be found online at www.cayuga.esc7.net. Early registration is $15 (with a short-sleeved shirt) or $20 (with a long-sleeved shirt).
Sign-up is available the day of the race, but there shirts cannot be guaranteed at that time. Prizes will be awarded.
