H.S. Girls Basketball: Westwood wins big in postseason return

Making their first playoff appearance in more than a decade, the Westwood girls’ basketball team wasn’t going to waste it on a one-and-done appearance.

The Lady Panthers rolled over Woodville Tuesday, 60-26, behind a monster night from Natali Muniz at Lufkin Hudson High School.

The senior scored 23 points and dished out eight assists in the victory, which moves the Lady Panthers on to face 18th-ranked Tatum in the area round.

That game is set for Friday at Nacogdoches High School.

Mi’Kayla Benson scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds in the victory for Westwood, which got eight points from Marialle Boles and six points and five steals from Shavon Nauls in the victory.

NECHES MATCHUP SET

The Neches girls’ basketball team will open up the 2013 playoffs at 6 p.m. Friday at Angelina College in Lufkin against Dallardsville Big Sandy.

Big Sandy defeated Broaddus in the bi-district round Tuesday.

Admission for the game will be $4 for adults and $3 for students.
