Slocum’s Brooke January will attend Paris Junior College to play softball in the fall, and her coach David Ives said he couldn’t be more ecstatic about her decision and about her opportunity to play at the next level.

Slocum's varsity boys team experienced this on Tuesday night as it had ample opportunities to make free throws in the second half to put away the Leon Cougars, and it did 56-41.
H.S. Basketball: Westwood comes close to beating Class 3A No. 21 Fairfield, but falls short 87-81
With about two minutes left on the clock in regulation, Westwood had a chance to beat Class 3A No. 21 Fairfield on Monday.
Down one point and in possession of the ball, Westwood got down the court and missed two consecutive shots, leading the Eagles to capitalize and eventually win the non-district match, 87-81.
H.S. Basketball: No. 1 Oakwood squeezes past No. 7 Douglass in Friday Night Showdown
Coming into Friday night, people were expecting a high scoring shootout for the No. 1 Oakwood Panthers and the No. 7 Douglass Indians.
Little did they know that a defensive battle would break out and the No. 1 team in the Class 1A Div. II would come away with a 48-34 Oakwood victory.
H.S. Soccer: PHS Ladycats win 3-1 in morning match
The Palestine Ladycats soccer team was in action on Friday morning in the East Texas Shootout Soccer Tournament held in Palestine, and they won their morning match 3-1.
The Ladycats came out with a goal in the first half followed by a quick goal at the beginning of the second half.
H.S. Basketball: PHS/WHS both get huge wins on Friday night
The Wildcats boys basketball team played a close match throughout the game against Groesbeck, but ultimately came away with the 90-60 win.
In what started out as a close game, the Wildcats turned it on in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Goats 24-7 to pull off the 30-point win.

Cayuga teammates Danielle Anderson and Cory McCulloch decided to stick together as they signed their letters of intent to continue their volleyball careers at Cisco College in Abilene.
