Six Flags Six-Hour Reading Club — The Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club forms are due Friday. Students who turn in these forms, signed by parents, will receive a free Six Flags ticket.
Mrs. Cook’s Third-Grade Class — Mrs. Cook's third-grade math class has been working very hard on problem solving and graphs this six weeks. Most students are doing very well earning multiplication scoops for our ice cream party. Other students need to really study harder. We will focus more on division and sharpening up on our word problems in the next couple of weeks. In science, we will start learning about the solar system next week. We will be doing a lot of exciting research and projects as well.
Mrs. Macias’ Fourth-Grade Class — The fourth graders have been busy writing stories about the person that means the world to them. They are supposed to give their story to that special person on Valentine's Day. The fourth graders also are getting themselves pumped up for the TAKS test on Tuesday.
Second Grade — Students in Mrs. Sekula's second-grade class played “amateur paleontologist.” They used chocolate chip cookies as their “dig-site.” The goal was to extract as many intact chocolate chips or “fossils” as possible. This fun activity completed a reading unit on dinosaurs.
Students in both second-grade classes teamed up for a math activity using conversation hearts. Each team shared a box for classification, measuring and graphing.
Try this at home... Choose your favorite TV show. Mute or turn down the volume. Display the closed captioning and read!
Mrs. Gunnel’s First-Grade Class — Mrs. Gunnels' math students are learning about money. They are able to recognize and tell what a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter are worth. So parents, save that extra change so your child can practice counting.
In language, the students are learning the plural forms of words and pronouns.
Mrs. Kaudelka’s Science Class — Mrs. Kaudelka's fourth graders have been learning all about plants. The students have been experimenting with growing seeds and dissecting seeds. They also made 3-D models of the parts of a flower.
Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart — For the fourth year, Neches Elementary School will be participating in the American Heart Associations, Jump Rope & Hoops for Heart event.
On Friday, kindergarten and first grade will take time out of their P.E. classes to Jump Rope for Heart. Last year’s kindergarten class brought in over $1,000.
Grades 2–6, will be “shooting hoops” in support of the Heart Association during the P.E. classes. Quick Shot, Speed Shot and Top Gun are some of the games they will be playing.
