• Bond Election — Early voting for the bond election will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each regular business day from April 30 through May 8 in the administration office at Neches High School. In addition, early voting will be held at the following times: 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 1 at Neches Elementary School; 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 5 at Neches Elementary School; May 8, 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 8 at Neches Elementary School; May 12, regular voting at Neches Elementary School.

— $ 5.25 million
— It will be used to build a new elementary school built on property behind the present school on property owned by the school district.
— The fund balance money will be used to do renovations to the K-2 building to adapt it to a 7th and 8th grade campus.
— Grades K-6 will be under one roof for safety and academic accountability.
— Move grades 7 and 8 away from the high school building.
— Any registered voter who lives within NISD can vote. Citizens must register by April 12 in order to vote in this election.
Renters and property owners may vote. Registered voters may vote at any early voting site with a valid Texas driver’s license.
• Web Site — Neches ISD has set up a new Web site at www.nechesisd.com.
All of the teachers have individual pages established to better communicate with the parents and community. We encourage all parents and students to visit.
• Upcoming Events — Tuesday, area track meet at Lovelady High School; Saturday, prom at Castle on the Lake in Jacksonville; April 17, TAKS for grades 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 10 (math); April 18, TAKS grades 4, 6, 7 and 8 (reading) grade 11 (math); April 19, TAKS, grades 5, 8, 10 and 11 (science) and grade 9 (math); April 20, TAKS, grades 8, 10 and 11 (social studies); April 23, school will be held due to using a bad weather day; April 22-27, Anderson County Livestock Show (some FFA Members will be participating); April 24, representative from Stephen F. Austin State University will be here to speak with juniors and seniors; May 1, THEA Test on campus; May 3, cheerleader tryouts after school; May 5, Neches Heritage Day.
• Counselor’s News — We will be giving the THEA test on May 1. Anyone interested needs to sign up with Mrs. Hudson.
All seniors should be making final decisions on there future plans. College application deadlines are approaching quickly and all documentation must be submitted.
Scholarship applications are coming in to my office on a weekly basis, and the students are receiving them. Parents: If you have questions are want to know more about any scholarships, please come by my office.
The FAFSA web worksheets are in, and all seniors need to complete the FAFSA before they will be considered for any type of financial assistance at any college. This form is very important!
TAKS TESTING is coming…..Students in grades 7-11 will be taking the TAKS TEST April 17-20.
Everyone needs to get a good night’s rest and be prepared.
• Drag Races — Mrs. Thompson's class went to Baytown to the Drag Races on March 30. The U.S. Army sponsored the event which was called the Yes Program. U.S. Army driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher talked to the students about teamwork and commitment. He also told them about the 4,000 different jobs the U.S. military offers graduating high school students.
Given the tremendous troop shortages due to deployments in Iraq and elsewhere, the Army hopes this event will ring even louder than the roar of his engines in the teenager's ears.
