To give the residents of Anderson County and East Texas a chance to get a jump on their holiday shopping the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Treasures of Christmas.

“All the merchants will offer their Christmas and holiday items in a booth at the event,” Gay Fuller, Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce director, said. “This is a place where people from all over East Texas can come and do all of their Christmas shopping under one roof.”

On Nov. 18 there will be a VIP party where the merchants will invite their clients to come for a special shopping experience and on Nov. 19 it will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fuller explained.

The event will be held at the Palestine Civic Center.

“This will be an economical way for people to get their Christmas shopping done because they will not have to drive all over town,” she added. “In addition they are helping the Palestine economy by shopping local.”

Last year the event attracted hundreds of shoppers and Fuller is expecting the same this year.

“We had 36 booths last year and are currently looking to fill all 30 spots this year,” said Sloan Shuffler, chamber board member. “They increased the size of the booths and lowered the number of booths so merchants could display more merchandise.”

Chamber members are expecting 1,000 people to come and shop during the event.

All types of items will be on display including clothing, jewelry, handmade items, custom cabinets, gourmet items, Christmas decorations and items, and baked goods, Shuffler added.

“We have lots of participating businesses already,” Fuller said.

There are still spaces available.

Entry forms are available at the chamber. There is a charge to have a booth — $25 for chamber members and $50 for non-chamber members.
