Police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of a 29-year-old Palestine man in connection with the pre-Christmas robbery of a local convenience store.

The warrant charges Jimmy Lee Brown, 29, of Palestine with the Dec. 18, 2005 aggravated robbery of the Pic N’ Go Food Market at 1009 W. Palestine Ave., according to Nick Webb, detective with the Palestine Police Department.

Brown, who is also known by his street name of “Moosey,” is presently incarcerated in the Navarro County Jail in Corsicana on an unrelated drug charge, the detective said.

“We’ll already have a hold on him and he’ll be sent over here (to the Anderson County Jail following Brown’s release from the Navarro County Jail),” Webb explained.

Palestine police interviewed Brown last week at the Navarro County Jail, according to Webb. During that interview, the suspect’s “participation (in the robbery) was confirmed,” the detective added.

During the late night hours of Dec. 18, authorities have said a black male entered the Pic N’ Go Food Market and “was speaking to the (female) clerk under the ruse of awaiting the manager’s return,” Webb said.

Subsequently, the male subject jumped over the counter; produced a knife; and attempted to obtain money from the cash register, the detective said.

The female clerk fled the store, and the male subject was unsuccessful in his effort to get money, according to Webb.

“Following up on leads developed during the investigation, he (Brown) became a suspect,” Webb stated
