• Flower Bed Project — Last year, the Oakwood GT class chose a problem in the community. A decision to volunteer and clean the community was suggested. Goal would be to improve and restore pride. The first project was to revive a flower bed at Oakwood City Hall. On Sept. 10, six girls “loaded up'' and “headed” to City Hall. The first task was to remove all the grass that had been growing in the flower bed. On Wednesday, the girls returned with dirt and flowers. The group covered the bed in top soil, then in potting soil. They took turns digging holes and planting flowers. All that was left after was to spread mulch and water the creations.
Reviving a flower bed may not seem like much, but it's something we took pride in, and is only the first of many projects we plan to do to restore Oakwood and its pride (written by Paige Eldridge).
• Oakwood PTO — The Oakwood PTO is back in full swing. The membership drive will be held at the next meeting on Oct. 3. Nachos, chili pie and chili will be served at the meeting. You may purchase a plate or just give a donation if you do not want to join the PTO. The PTO also will have nominations and vote for new officers. Please come out and support the organization. All of the proceeds from PTO go directly into the Oakwood School.
Several pieces of equipment were added to the playground last year. At this time volunteers are needed to put together the gazebo. This will be used by the students for outside work. On nice cool days, the teachers will be able to use the gazebo for learning activities. The next project is a shelter for the children to wait in outside when being picked up by their parents at the end of the day. Please mark this date on your calendar and plan on coming out to support the school.
