Robert Lloyd Rhyne

Funeral services for 1st Sgt. Robert Lloyd Rhyne, 72, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Rick Dees officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Palestine.

Mr. Rhyne had been a resident of Palestine since 1969.

He was born in Linden, Texas on April 8, 1936 to Urban LeeGrand Rhyne and Lois Mae Henderson Rhyne. He attended Marshall High School.

Mr. Rhyne joined the Army National Guard on April 7, 1951 in Marshall, Texas. He served in the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He went to work full time for the Guard in 1963. He enjoyed working for the Guard and faithfully served until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church.

Mr. Rhyne was a loving dad and “Pap-Pa” and a loving and supportive husband. In the younger circle he was known as Pap-Pa Rhyne.

He married Martha Allums in 1957 in Marshall, Texas. They celebrated their 51st Anniversary on May 24, 2008.

Mr. Rhyne was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laura Kay Rodriguez; great-grand-daughters, Clara Beth and Carleigh Ray Golden; twin brother, Trimmier LeeGrand Rhyne; brother, Edward Davis Rhyne; and sister, Billye Jo Rhyne Bankston.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha Allums Rhyne; daughter, Theresa Rhyne Bambeck and husband Danny; son, Robert Lloyd Rhyne II; grandchildren, Robert L. Rhyne III, Kristy Rhyne, Jennifer Rhyne, Leslie Leighan Bambeck, Crystal Riederer, Brooke Bambeck Golden and husband Vance, Robert Anthony Rhyne Rodriguez and wife Domenique, and Megan Marie Phoneix Rodriguez, great-grandchildren, Caleb Lloyd and Lucas Caden Rhyne, Latimer and Joseph Rhyne Baker, Allison Leighan and Chance Cooper Golden, Aubrey Marie Rodriguez; nine nieces, 11 nephews, cousins, numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Will Barnett, Mike Cubstead, Craig Landrum, Truman Scarbrough, Tony Bankston, Dale Rhyne and Timmy Bankston. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Woodard, Lynn Cummins, Tommy Bankston, Ed Sandell, Ben Gunter, Benny Loftin, Fred R. Jones, Lester Byrd, A.P. Shepard, Lucius Wright, Thomas Bright, Bob Ferguson and Randy Rhyne.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Palestine.
