Violet Faye Pettiette

Violet Faye “Baby Doo” Pettiette left her earthly body to join her heavenly Father on Sunday, February 15, 2009.

She was born September 7, 1924, in Palestine to Conrad Hilton and Lonie Bell Miller. Mrs. Pettiette was co-owner of Pettiette’s HiWay Inn for 32 years and manager of Chapparell Restaurant for four years. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Adolphus William Pettiette Jr.

Mrs. Pettiette, affectionately known as “MeMaw” to her nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, was a faithful and supportive wife and mother.  She was a very faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a dedicated member of our community, consistently serving others at the HiWay Inn, Chapparell Restaurant, family, and friends. Mrs. Pettiette never met a stranger and befriended special people she witnessed to over the years.  Violet Faye was a dedicated member of Evangelistic Temple through the years of Brother Tom Potts. Because of failing health, she spent the last several years at Cartmell Home.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Calcote and husband Gary of Palestine; sons, Jeff Pettiette and wife Marilyn of St. Petersburg, Fla., Stan Pettiette of Palestine, Dennis Pettiette and wife Kim of Oakwood; several half brothers and sisters; nine grandchildren, Monica Pettiette, Rachel and Jeff James, Amy and Jeff Castleberry, Zac and Stephanie Pettiette, Chad and Amanda Pettiette, Josh and Christy Pettiette, Ginger and Bryan Stewart, Bradley and Jodie Calcote, Corbin Pettiette; 17 great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Will Franklin, Luke and Colt James, Meredith Castleberry, Emma and Ella Pettiette, Ayden, Ryder and Jackson Pettiette, Hannah and Gracie Belle Pettiette, Reagan, Cameron and Kyle Stewart, Sean and Spencer Calcote; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mrs. Pettiette’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009, at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Rev. Ron Sloan officiating. A visitation will follow from 7 to 9 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery with Deacon Alex Kobar officiating under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabeth Lane Unit at Cartmell Home for Aged, 2212 W. Reagan, Palestine, Texas 75801; or the Alzheimer’s Alliance of Northeast Texas, 211 Winchester, Tyler, Texas 75701.
