Allen Donald Starr

Allen Donald Starr, 90, of Lake Jackson went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 15, 2008 while at Kindred Hospital in Houston.
Donald (or A.D. as many knew him) was born March 25, 1917 at the home of his parents near Elkhart, Anderson County, Texas, the third of seven children born to Allen and Alda May (Connell) Starr. After lettering in track and graduating from Elkhart High School in 1935, he married the love of his life, Loyetta Baker of Grapeland, Houston County, Texas on August 18, 1939.
Donald and Loyetta farmed peanuts after they married. Donald worked in the shipyards in Houston as a welder during the later years of WWII and they moved to Clute with their two oldest boys in 1951 and joined Temple Baptist Church. Donald went to work for Ethyl-Dow Chemical, worked part time as a carpenter, and retired as a machinist. Donald and Loyetta loved to travel by car sightseeing the U.S. and Donald was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society’s Road-to-Recovery program for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Loyetta; daughter Gwen Starr Agnew and husband Allen of Angleton; son Glen Reagan Starr and wife Patti of Conroe; and grandchildren, Mark Edward Starr, David Neil Starr, and Phillip Wayne Starr of Philadelphia, Pa., Gene Allen Presley of Angleton, Keith Gordon Presley of Dallas and Daffney Loyetta Starr of New Dublin, Ga., USMC Staff Sgt. Cory Wayne Jeffers of Camp Lejeune, N.C. and Allison Agnew Covington of Opelousas, La.; and Kathryn Elizabeth Starr of Conroe; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Lois McClintock and Opal Doss of Houston and Juanita Chaffin of Elkhart; and many other loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Conrad Harold “C.H.” Starr, Flora May Miller, and Margaret (Peggy) Lawrence; his two oldest sons, Wayne Donald Starr and Ralph Gordon Starr; grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Starr and Natalie Ann Starr; and many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Starr Family Cemetery in Elkhart with Pastor David Taylor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to Temple Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
