Mamie Christell (Chris) Parker

Mamie Christell (Chris) Parker, was born on Nov. 24, 1923 to the Rev. Edgar and Mamie Salmon Murdock in Salmon. Chris peacefully passed on March 22, 2008 at her home in Abilene, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 at the First Baptist Church of Elkhart with Brother Floyd Petersen officiating. Burial will follow in Guiceland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Chris grew up Salmon, Texas and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1941. In October 1942, Chris married Glenn Parker of Grapeland, Texas. They had two children, Sue and Eddie Max. Chris and Glenn were happily married for 50 years before Glenn passed away in June 1992. During their marriage they lived in the Texas cities of Houston, Salmon, Rankin, Silver, Merkel, Bowie, and the State of Louisiana before returning to Elkhart in 1986 to begin their retirement. Chris remained in Elkhart until August 2007 when she moved to Abilene to be closer to her daughter, Sue. While in Elkhart, Chris was actively involved with the First Baptist Church family. Chris’s life revolved around her family and her faith. She loved those special times when the entire family would gather at Guiceland each year for the Memorial Day holiday.

After Glenn’s passing in 1992, Chris relied on the loving support of the Fraser family, the Harrod family, Harry Magee and numerous friends. She loved to play dominos and cards with friends and family. Chris also cherished her weekly friends’ night out in Palestine.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Glenn; her son Eddie Max; and her son-in-law Dan Laughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Laughter of Abilene; her grandchildren, Staci Eaton and partner Vic Blain of Abilene, Dr. Kevin Eaton and wife Shelia of Weatherford, Shelby Luke and husband Barney of Comfort, Turner Laughter and wife Darla of Boerne; and her great-grandchildren, Blake Steele, Katie Eaton, Natalie Steele, Korbin Eaton, Kennedy Eaton, Savannah Barnes, Kamryn Eaton and Sophie Barnes.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
