Services for Eugene Melton “Gus” Steiner, 64, of Fairfield were held at 10 a.m. today at Round Prairie Baptist Church with Bro. Ed Ridge officiating. Burial followed in Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel, Fairfield.
Mr. Steiner died Saturday. He was born Aug. 13, 1943 in Noodle to parents Homer and Margaret Grimes. Mr. Steiner graduated from Newman High School in Sweetwater in 1962. He was Santa on the Square for over 20 years. He was an original member of the Fairfield EMS, retired, and was a member of the EMS Board of Directors and the Fairfield VFD for many years. Mr. Steiner retired from TUMCO in 1992. His was most recently employed by Freestone County and was the owner of Steiner Fencing Co. He was a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church.
Mr. Steiner was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter Brett Kristian Steiner. Survivors include wife, Susan Steiner of Fairfield; daughters, Chelsea Steiner of Fairfield, and Kelli Brown and husband Bobby of Teague; brother, Homer Lloyd Grimes Jr. and wife Patsy of Sweetwater; sister-in-law, Janie Prestridge of Athens; mother-in-law, Dorothy Petri of Fairfield; brothers-in-law, Alan Petri and John Bush of Alvarado and Michael Petri of Missouri City; granddaughters, Macy and Jenna Brown of Teague; and special daughter, Anna Easter.
Pallbearers were Brian Hughes, Bobby Brown, Roy Casey III, Billie Perez, Stevie James and Monte Atchley. Honorary pallbearers were John Fryer, W.A. Davis, Noland Hughes, Ralph Lambert, Mike O’Neill, Roy Casey Jr., John Gordon Small and J.H. Keller.
