Dr. Raymond Doyle Rice

Funeral services for Dr. Raymond Doyle Rice, 85, of Hilltop Lakes, Texas will be held at the graveside in Ivy Cemetery near Kennard, Texas on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 4 p.m. There will be a visitation at Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton from 2 to 3 p.m. The Rev. James Whittlesey will be officiating.
Raymond was born in Trinity County on May 15, 1922 to Lela Money and Thomas H. Rice. He died April 16, 2008 at Hospice of East Texas unit in Palestine, Texas. He graduated from Kennard High School in 1940 and worked briefly in Dallas. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Naval Air Corp. After his discharge from service he attended Stephen F. Austin and Texas Chiropractic College. Raymond graduated from Texas Chiropractic College in 1948 and received one of the first Chiropractic licenses under the current Texas law. He practiced chiropractic continuously until he became disabled in 2007. He had offices in Lubbock, Groveton, Onalaska and Hilltop Lakes.
In his lifetime, he worked diligently in many different organizations such as the American Legion, Lions Club, Texas Chiropractic Association, American Chiropractic Associated and the Onalaska City Council was well as Mayor of Onalaska. He was honored to be a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Harvey and Lela Money Rice; his brother, Dr. Andrew W. Rice; his sisters, Reba Eastepp and Nola Farek, and their husbands, Carroll Eastepp and Joe Ed Farek.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edith Anderson Rice; his sons, Dr. Don A. Rice and wife Cheryl, Dr. John F. Rice, Dr. Richard M. Rice and wife Lisa, and daughter Karen Sue Rice; brothers, Dr. Glenn W. Rice and wife Mary, Dr. Tom W. Rice and wife Geanice, and his sister, Lona Marie “Tony” Rice Medley; sisters-in-law, Ruth Rice, Nell Aiken and husband Bill, and Maggie Jacobs and husband Rudy.
He has 10 grandchildren: Donna Rice, Joseph “Trey” Price, Lacey Price, Devyn Rice, Raymond Travis Rice, Holly Rice, Elizabeth “Beth” Rice, Farrelle Rice, Elysa Rice and Tristan Rice.
There also are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made either to Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Texas or Groveton Eastern Star Lodge 284 A.F. and A.M.
