Omie Kindom Callaway, 91, of Palestine died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the St. James House in Baytown.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Omie was born June 1, 1916 in Palestine to parents Nicholas W. and Martha E. Wilson Callaway. He was a former resident of Houston and had resided in the Palestine area for 34 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired as operator for Exxon Chemicals of Baytown after 30 years of employment. Omie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkhart and the Good Sams Camping Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, working cattle and traveling.
Mr. Callaway was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Angela Faust; sisters, Florence Faulk, Juanita Kennedy, Prudie Ganes and Eunice Segrest; and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gertrude A. Metz Callaway of Palestine; daughters, Brenda Callaway Cox and husband Billy of Baytown, Pat Callaway Walden and husband Rocky of Dayton, and Martha Callaway Faust and husband Dwayne of Austin; son, Steve Callaway and wife Barbara of Baytown; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of usual floral remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church at Parker St. in Elkhart, Texas 75839, or the First Assembly of God at P.O. Box 173, Elkhart, Texas 75839.
