Services for L.D. Nelms, 79, of Flint were at 1:30 p.m. today at Lloyd James Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sam DeVille officiating, followed by a 4:30 p.m. graveside service at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart.
Mr. Nelms died Monday in Tyler.
He was born Sept. 16, 1928 in Elkhart to the late William Homer and Tinnie Mae McNeill Nelms.
Mr. Nelms was a telephone technician and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 40 years of service.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army and was a member of Flint Baptist Church.
Mr. Nelm was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Floyd Thomas “Buster” Nelms.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Nelms; two sons, Larry Nelms and wife Senette of Elkhart and Joe Nelms and wife Denise of Whitehouse; daughter, Becky Lohmeyer and husband Harris of Elkhart; and a sister, Adele Harris of Palestine, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Wade Nelms, Clint Lohmeyer, Todd Nelms, Joey Stuebgen, Garth Bolton and John Gray. Honorary pallbearers were golfing buddies from Oakhurst and Peach Tree golf courses.
