Ousley Lacy Sr.
Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather Ousley Lacy Sr., 94, of Palestine, Texas passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Trinity Rehab Center in San Augustine, Texas.
Ousley was born Jan. 15, 1915 to the union of Maggie Bell Howard and William Lacy.
On June 16, 1940, Ousley was joined in holy matrimony to Mary Bell Reed Lacy. To this union eight children were born.
Ousley was preceded in death by one daughter and one son. He also was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and five sisters.
At an early age Ousley joined Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. He was ordained and served faithfully as a deacon. He also served New Jerusalem in the same capacity. During his later years, even though his health began to fail, he served as honorary deacon under the pastorship of the Revs. Donald Lacy and Rodney Angton.
Ousley attended Lincoln High School. He worked as a private concrete contractor throughout Anderson County. He also worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad and retired after 36 years. Ousley was a gifted artist with an incredible talent to design native rock walls. He shared his talents generously with family and young men in the community. He always demonstrated love for his family.
Now that Ousley is at rest, he leaves to mourn his passing his loving, devoted wife of 69 years, Mary. B. Lacy; one daughter, Audrey Lacy Murray of Palestine; five sons, Ousley Lacy Jr. and wife Barbara of Pearland, the Rev. Donald Lacy and wife Paula of Alvin, Sidney Lacy and wife Debbie of Palestine, Patrick Lacy and wife Linda of Channelview and Winfred Lacy of Houston; 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his sisters, Marie Mosley Burrell and husband Robert of Palestine, Wanda Gaston and husband Charlie of Seattle, Wash., and Ruby Williams and husband Mac of Seattle; and one brother, Julius Lacy of Los Angeles, Calif.
Goodbye is never easy and this one is especially hard. Ousley, Daddy, Papa will be greatly missed and always loved.
Visitation service will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 at McCoy Funeral Home, 501 W. Oak St. in Palestine, Texas. (903-729-5212).
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009 at Evangelistic Temple, 3011 N. Loop 256, Palestine, Texas. Interment to follow at Memorial City Cemetery.
