Funeral services for Betty Johnson, 75, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Msgr. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park. Visitation will be today at 2 p.m. at the Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a Rosary Wake Service recited at 3 p.m. with Deacon Alex Kobar and Msgr. Zacharias officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday in a Tyler hospital after a brief illness.
She was born May 15, 1933 in Danville, Ky., to Fred Marion Fister III and Willa Slattery Fister. Mrs. Johnson worked alongside her husband, K.G., for many years assisting him in his engineering businesss. She was a very active member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church involved with St. Vincent de Paul and Treasurer of the Altar Society and member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Betty also kept very busy with many community activities. She was a member and past president of Harvey Woman’s Club and Newcomers Club. She was extremely involved with Pionette Garden Club and Dogwood Garden Club, serving in the capacity of President for both of these organizations. She held many positions within the Garden Council. Her most noteworthy was President of the Texas State Garden Club. She also volunteered for many years with the GOP, being one of the founding members and President of the Republican Women of Anderson County.
Betty loved her friends and family most of all. She will be deeply missed by her Rummy Royal Sisterhood, in which she was a member for 43 years, her Tuesday Poker Group, Garden Club friends and her Friday Lunch Bunch. She enjoyed traveling and the many great times she shared with family and friends.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, K. Gordon Johnson.
She is survived by two daughters, Theresa McMullin and husband Scott of Jackson, Miss. and Diane Lowry and husband Sonny of Frankston; three brothers, Fred Fister IV of Dahlonega, Ga., Robert “Bobby” Fister and wife May of Dacula, Ga., and Paul Fister and wife Kay of Roswell, Ga.; five grandchildren, Chip Foster, Danielle Lowry, Garrett, Gordon and Kathleen McMullin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chip Foster, Garrett and Gordon McMullin, Andy Totah and Randy, Jeffrey and Jesse George Jr.
