Robert Smith

Services for Robert Clarence Smith, 60, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Casey Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Friday at the VA Hospital in Temple.

He was born Sept. 2, 1947, in Lufkin, to Benjamin Franklin Smith and Jewel Largent Smith. He had lived here since 1992 and was a Baptist.

Mr. Smith was in the US Army serving three tours in Vietnam. He worked for many years with Brown & Root and was a member of the VFW Post 8924.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Smith; five sons, Michael Lebel, James Lebel, Robert Smith II, Curtis Lee and Bobby Lee; five daughters, Melissa Holley, Machelle Hollingsworth, Tracy Johnson, Lisa Lee and Joy Husch; one brothers, Starling Largent; three sisters, Brenda Largent, Jeanie Brewer and Dorothy Largent; 30 grandparents and five great-grandparents.

Pallbearers will be members of the VFW.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
