Robert Clarence Smith

Services for Robert Clarence Smith, 60, of Palestine will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Casey Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Friday at the VA Hospital in Temple.

He was born Sept. 2, 1947, in Lufkin, to Benjamin Franklin Smith and Jewel Largent Smith.

Mr. Smith had lived here since 1992 and was a Baptist. He was in the U.S. Army serving three tours in Vietnam. He worked for many years with Brown & Root and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8924.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Smith of Palestine; five sons, Michael Lebel, James Lebel, Robert Smith II, Curtis Lee and Bobby Lee; five daughters, Melissa Holley, Machelle Hollingsworth, Tracy Johnson, Lisa Lee and Joy Husch; one brother, Starling Largent; three sisters, Brenda Largent, Jeanie Brewer and Dorothy Largent; 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the VFW.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
