Winnie Lee Pate Hosea

Winnie Lee Pate Hosea passed away at Cypress Wood Care Center in Angleton on Saturday.
Winnie was born in Flo, Texas to Ed L. and Theo Docia (Smith) Pate, on March 11, 1925. She grew up in Oakwood and graduated from Oakwood High School. After graduation, Winnie went to the shipyards in Beaumont and worked as a welder during the war. She returned to Oakwood and was working in her mother's local café. Her future husband Marvin Hosea had returned from World War II and was passing thru Oakwood. They were married on July 2, 1945.
In 1951, they moved to the Brazosport area and Marvin went to work for Dow Chemical. They raised their children in Oyster Creek. Later on Winnie lived in Jones Creek and Sweeny.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin Hosea, and infant son, Marvin Jr., her parents Ed and Docia Pate and brother Archie Pate.
She is survived by her children, Marilyn Lidberg and husband Russell of Sargent/Brazoria, Albert Hosea and wife Deborah of Waco and Doris Trammell and husband Calvin of Rosharon/Sweeny; granddaughters, Chanell Motley Morgan and husband Steven, Brandi Abbott Dorsett and husband Chuck of Brazoria, Mandie Trammell of Angleton, Heather Trammell Godfrey and husband Stevie of Houston, Coty Motley Johns and husband Kevin of Vidor, Sierra Hosea Hunter and husband Jason of Beaumont and Tracy and Ashley Hosea of Waco, TX; great grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany and Brooke Morgan. Emily Doiron, Lane, Coby, Caden and Cassie Dorsett, all of Brazoria, Treyvin Cortinas, Skyler and Austin Rieck of Angleton, Chloe Godfrey of Houston, Devin and Kelly Johns of Vidor, and Dylan, Savannah and Jaycie Hunter of Beaumont.
Winnie also is survived by her sisters, Wilma Alexander of Copperas Cove, TX, Pat Pennington of Brazoria, Charlie Boley and husband Eugene of Elkhart, TX and Laura Dale Warren and husband James of Palestine, TX and brother in law, Floyd Anderson of Lindale, TX. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Winnie was a homemaker, an Avon representative and later she worked as a sales clerk at Sunny's Food Store. She then retired to help her sisters take care of their mother.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 in Lake Jackson. Her funeral services will be held at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Palestine, TX at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandson-in-laws, Steven Morgan, Chuck Dorsett, Stevie Godfrey, Kevin Johns, Jason Hunter and great grandson, Brandon Morgan. Honary Pall burials will be her nephews, Eddie Pennington, George Pennington, Eugene Boley, Darrell Hosea and Erwin Anderson.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Cypress Wood Care Center for all the loving and kindness they have showed our mother, Memaw and sister. Also, a thanks goes out the A Med Hospice for all of their extended care.
Winnie “Winnie the Poo,” “Winnie the Welder” will be missed greatly by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sisters.
