“Celebration of Life”
Memorial services for Melvin Thomas will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Judson Baptist Church in Cayuga with Brother Wyley Jenkins officiating. There will be a prayer burial at Judson Cemetery after the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas passed away on July 16, 2008, at his home in Cayuga. He was 81. He was born on April 14, 1927 in Cayuga to Hubert and Hattie Thomas.
He was a truck driver all of his life and retired from Pool Well Service in the mid-1990s. He ran his small ranch in Cayuga up until February 2008 when he began his battle with lung cancer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Thomas; his parents, Hubert and Hattie Thomas; two brothers, Dan and W.T. Thomas; sister, Christine Sparks; and grandson, Michael Hudgins.
He is survived by his daughter, Kay Campbell of Irving; sons, Jim Thomas of Irving, Danny Thomas of Old Bridge, N.J. and Ray Thomas of Cayuga; sister, Joretta Sims of Cayuga; nine grandchildren, Justin, Colter, Cody, Robert, Shane, Janell, Josh, Brandon and Aja; four great-grandchildren, Katy, Andrew, Aaron and Cole; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Joseph M. Thomas to the Hospice of East Texas Bereavement Fund, Attn: Margie CEO, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
