Wanda Joyce Rupkey

The Palestine Herald

Wanda Joyce Rupkey of Austin, formerly of Manor, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008. Wanda was born May 31, 1960 in Fayetteville, N.C. to Martin and Winnie Jackson.

The family returned to her mother’s native Texas before Wanda was 2 years old. She grew up in Manor, where she attended school from kindergarten through her high school years. Wanda later worked for MISD part time driving buses for students participating in extracurricular events. One of her greatest joys in life was the time she spent with the young people from Manor High. She was a dedicated employee of the State of Texas for the past 17 years, most recently in the chief operating office as inventory coordinator. Her excellent work ethic and willingness to give every aspect of her job 110 percent made her an invaluable employee. Her attitude and loving heart made her a dear friend to coworkers and supervisors alike who will miss her very much.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, James J. Rupkey of Austin; son, Thomas Wayne Rupkey and wife Tiffany of Round Rock; mother, Winnie Jackson of Austin; sister, Debi and husband Robert Drosche of Manor; brother, T.C. Hendrix and wife Karen of Palestine; brother, Charles Hendrix of Manor; five nieces, one nephew, one great-niece, six great-nephews, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, both in Texas and North Carolina, and countless loving friends. All will dearly miss her.

Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Martin Jackson; sister Ginger; and grandparents, Lloyd and Julia Toungate and Hubbard and Bertie Jackson.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, with the Rev. Randy Tumlinson officiating. Pallbearers will be Andy Tumlinson, Kevin Reeves, Ronnie Roberts, James Howell, Rodney Woelfel and Spencer Bair. Interment will follow at Rhodes Cemetery, 13275 Pond Springs Rd.
