Services for Virgil A. Alford, 84, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Willhite officiating. Burial will follow in Strong Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
Mr. Alford died Wednesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 25, 1925 in Palestine to George Alfred and Lottie Rogers Alford.
Mr. Alford was a retired machinist and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Slocum Union Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rheda Alford; and a brother, Adrian Alford.
Mr. Alford is survived by his daughter, Mary Alford Cohrs and husband Frelynn of Houston; son, David Wayne Alford and wife Karen of Mulberry, Fla.; sisters, Anita Lois Wylie and Eurita Rieger; grandson, Jeremy Alford and wife Rebecca; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Lauren; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Slocum Union Church or to a charity of choice.
