Connie Radford
The Palestine Herald
Connie Radford passed away in Houston, Texas on September 25, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She will be fondly remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Connie was born on September 24, 1954 in Palestine, Texas to Ora Faye and Robert L. Radford.
Her parents preceded her in death. Connie is survived by special friend, Ray Wheeler; sister, Robbie Scheel and husband George; brother, Joe Radford and wife Frankie; sister, Lu Rhyne and husband Beverly; her twin sister, Carolyn Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. We will miss Connie’s witty sayings, her courage and strong will and her enthusiastic response to help others in need.
Planning family reunions at the beach and cousin camp at the lake were yearly events Connie enjoyed. Being with family and friends was an important part of her life.
Connie lived in Oakwood, graduated from Oakwood High School, and received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She taught in Louisiana and Texas schools and retired, due to illness, after teaching in Aldine ISD for several years, and had many warm memories and stories of her years in the teaching profession in English, art and technology.
As a member of the Trinity Church of Christ, she taught children’s Sunday school classes and painted beautiful sets for vacation bible school, volunteered time and skills, and quickly responded when needed. Connie attended Wednesday night services at Westbury Church of Christ in Houston. There she supported missionary work around the world. Connie felt that giving was a privilege.
The experimental treatments and surgeries which Connie received at Methodist were welcomed and appreciated. They lengthened her life and gave hope for others to have successful treatments and cures.
In lieu of flowers those wishing to make memorial contributions may send them to Tribute Fund, Lady Bird Johnson Wildlife Center, 4801 La Cross Ave., Austin, Texas 78739.
Connie’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Church of Christ on Texas Hwy. 19 in Trinity.
