Funeral services for Elmo B. Mann, 92, of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. M.T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine City Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the U.S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
Mr. Mann died Saturday at the home of his daughter in Corpus Christi.
He was born Oct. 18, 1916 in Palestine to Carl Julian and Emma Mitchell Mann. He was retired from Texas Eastern Gas Transmission where he worked for 30 years as a welder. He entered the United States Naval Seebees from the Naval reserve station in Tyler on July 30, 1943. He served with the 126th Naval construction battalion in cb maintenance unit No. 581 in all of the South Pacific islands. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 20, 1945 with the rank of Shipfitter First Class. He helped form the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3907 in 1947 where he was a lifetime member and participated until the age of 90.
Mr. Mann was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Melba Mann, in 1982; a sister, Lou Owen; and two brothers, Chester Mann and Bobby Mann.
He is survived by his daughter, Eleanor Barrow of Corpus Christi; a sister, Lee Gibson of Palestine; a brother, Donald Mann of Spring; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be members of the VFW Post 3907.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
