H. Dwayne Payne

H. Dwayne Payne, born on Aug. 14, 1954, passed away on Oct. 2, 2006. Dwayne was preceded in death by his father, J.D. in 1992, and mother Alleen, in June of 2006. He is survived by Marleta, his wife of 30 years; two daughters, Amanda and Christina; one son-in-law, Jimmy; and two grandsons, Noah and Micah. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Forest Oaks Chapel in Jasper. A 3 p.m. graveside service will follow at Parker Cemetery in Grapeland.

Dwayne married Marleta on Jan. 17, 1976 at Faith Lutheran Church in Dickinson. Their first daughter Amanda was born Aug. 16, 1978 and was followed soon after by Christina on Dec. 27, 1979. Some of the proudest moments of Dwayne’s life were watching Amanda graduate from Texas A&M, walking Chrissy down the aisle during her married to Jimmy Turrubiate of Dickinson, and the births of his two grandsons from their union, Noah and Micah.

Dwayne graduated from LaMarque High School in 1972 and went on to attend Texas A&M University. He worked for Amoco in Texas City until moving to Bryan in 1981 to work for Clayton Williams (Wilco Gas) in Snook. Through the years he worked for Union Pacific Resources, Duke Energy, and finally Eagle Rock Energy as supervisor of the Brookeland plant near Jasper. The Paynes relocated to Lake Sam Rayburn in 2003. An avid outdoorsman, Dwayne spent most of his free time hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying nature. It didn’t matter how many fish he caught, or if he got a deer, dove or duck during hunting season, the joy for Dwayne was in sitting outside, enjoying the beauty of God’s earth. He was a devoted husband and father, coaching his daughter’s softball teams and enjoyed rocking on the porch and fishing on the lake with his wife. He never passed up a good joke, and was always the first to lend a helping hand.

Dwayne also is survived by his sister Betty Payne Crowder and her husband James Crowder of Hitchcock; his brother Don Payne and wife Terri of Kingwood. He leaves behind one nephew, Eric Larsen, and six nieces, Lisa Balke Thompson, Allison Payne, Laura Payne, Amanda Brown, Alyssa Brown and Mia Brown.

The Lord brought Dwayne home at an early age, and all who knew him are thankful for the short time we had with him. He will be greatly missed by all of the people whose lives he touched, and we commend his spirit to our Lord.

In lieu of flowers, the Payne family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice, or one of the following: C.A.S.A. of Jasper, C.A.S.T. for Kids of Jasper, or Angel of Joy Lutheran Church of Lufkin. Contribution envelopes are available at Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Condolences can be made at www.timeformemory.com/forestoaks
