Ernest Lane



Services for Ernest Lane, 90, of Palestine will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mr. Lane died Thursday at his residence.

He was born April 28, 1919, in Anderson County to Louis and Mary Walker Lane.

Mr. Lane graduated from Palestine High School and owned and operated the City Shoe Shop in Palestine since 1943. A lifelong supporter of the Palestine Wildcats and anything connected to his grandchildren, he traveled the United States to be a part of their lives. He will be greatly missed. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palestine.

Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers. Cecil Lane, Vernon Lane and Charles Lane.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Clara Lane of Palestine; a daughter, Marylyn Lane DeFilippo and husband John of Houston; son, Robert Lane and wife Sandra of Palestine; brother, Jack Lane; five grandchildren, Melanie Lane Dulworth and husband Paul, Scott Lane and wife Emily, Anthony DeFilippo and wife Laura, Christina DeFilippo Mack and husband Peter, David DeFilippo; and two great-grandchildren Max Dulworth and Lucas DeFilippo.

Pallbearers will be Anthony DeFilippo, Cpt. David DeFilippo, Scott Lane, Paul Dulworth, Dr. Pete Mack and Paul Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Leroy Mathis, Proctor Moore, Judge Bascom Bentley and Duane Raines.

We would like to extend a special thanks to Vernice Dickson, Patsy Morrison, JoAnn Brookings and all those who so lovingly helped care for him.

Condolence calls will be received from noon to 2 p.m. today before the service.
