Elsie Mae Gallatin Ward
Elsie Mae Gallatin Ward was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 9, 2009. She was born in Houston, Texas on Jan. 30, 1919 to S.L. and Elsie Edmundson Jones. The family moved to Palestine when she was 1 year old. She attended school in Palestine graduating from Palestine High School in 1936.
She was married to L.T. Gallatin on Dec. 24, 1936 in Palestine where they also raised two sons, Albert Earl Gallatin and Lumpkin Thomas Gallatin. L.T. Gallatin passed away on Feb. 22, 1960. She remarried in 1964 to Lloyd G. Ward on May 29. Mr. Ward passed away Oct. 15, 1988.
She was an active member of the Montalba Baptist Church. She participated in several organizations including the Red Hatters, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and several quilting groups. In addition to her kind unassuming spirit, she was also known for her prize winning quilts and paintings. She was honored by being elected Co-Grand Marshall of the 2002 Montalba Fall Festival Parade.
Ms. Ward is survived by two sons, Albert Gallatin and his wife, Freda, of Grand Prairie and Thom Gallatin and his wife, Sheila, of Garland. She is also survived by Mike Ward and his wife, Melanie, of Montalba. Additional survivors include her brother, Earl Leroy Jones, of Highland Village; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Janice Rudd was her loyal and best friend.
Services will be held at the Montalba Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. Family visitation at the church will begin at noon. Interment will be in the Land of Memory in Palestine. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.
