Services for Virginia S. Dawson, 93, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church of Palestine with the Rev. Dan Bubach officiating. Burial will follow at Palestine City Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dawson died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 25, 1915 in Palestine to Thomas Lamar and Jennie Bassett Slaughter. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1932 and was a member of the First Christian Church.

Mrs. Dawson lived in Houston and worked at Foley’s and also lived in Tyler and worked as a secretary to the superintendent of Tyler Independent School District. She later lived in Dallas and worked many years at Hillcrest Cemetery where she sold property at Hillcrest Mausoleum.

Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Sandra Dawson; grandson, Charles Phillips; and two sisters, Louise Hill and Eva Rodgers.

She is survived by three nephews, Thomas Hill of Midland, Alan Hill of Dallas and William Rodgers of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren, Teresa Phillips of Tyler and Virginia Bowser of Dallas; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
