Funeral services for Richard Bailey Summers, 33, of Beaumont, Texas will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with Ross Chandler and Linda Herron officiating. Burial will follow at Palestine City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ric lost his two-year battle with cancer early Tuesday morning, Oct. 13, 2009 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Ric was born in Palestine, Texas on Sept. 3, 1976 to Hugh and Ahnise Summers and graduated from Palestine High School in 1995. He received an Industrial Distribution degree from Texas A&M University in 2000, being a member of the class of 1999.
Ric was an Eagle Scout from Boy Scout Troop 440 and he was a current Assistant Scout Master with the troop. Ric was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the 1994 Palestine High School district football and soccer teams champs. At Texas A&M Ric was elected president of PAID (Professional Association of Industrial Distribution) and was a recipient of the Outstanding ID Student Award. He worked for GE Supply/Gexpro for eight years and was the manager of the Beaumont branch. Ric was recognized on several occasions as a top leader in his business and was honored to receive branch of the year for 2008.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, F. Bailey and Christine Summers, and Richard and Jewell Varnell.
Ric is survived by wife, Kim Hudgins Summers of Beaumont; parents, Hugh and Ahnise Summers of Palestine; brother, Alan Summers of Houston; uncle, Wayne Varnell; cousin and best friend, Richard Gilliam and wife Shannon.
Pallbearers will be Matt Diffendal, Brad Langley, Link Harris, Huntleigh Harris, Ben Broyles, Josh Pettiette and Jason Henrichs. Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Varnell, Kyle Hudgins, Jim Holeman, David Clark, Gene Beebe and Rich Hawrylak and Ross Chandler.
