Graveside services for Cleve C. Griffin, 94, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Cedar Creek Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Griffin died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living.
Cleve Griffin, the youngest of nine siblings who have preceded him in death, was born and grew up in the Atlanta, Texas area and retired from a long career in Houston radio station management and sports broadcasting. He moved to Palestine permanently in 1984 after his retirement.
Mr. Griffin served in the US Navy during World War II.
As a part-time resident since 1966, Mr. Griffin along with his brother Martin also then a Palestine resident, built fishing lakes and developed the property around them. He is remembered for his love of the woods, fishing, country living, and hosting big fish fries.
Mr. Griffin is survived by a son, Steven Griffin; two grandsons, Daniel Griffin and Paul Griffin; and two nephews, James Griffin and Charles Perry.
