— Graveside services for Mary Alice Mathis, 84, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Land of Memory Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Mathis died Thursday at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living Center.

She was born Aug. 3, 1928 in Anderson County, to Dan Henry and Sallie Fitzgerald Rector.

She was a teachers’ aid and retired from Gregory-Portland Independent School District. She was a member of the Memorial Christian Church.

Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rayford Earl Mathis; and numerous brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Mariann Shelton and husband Jimmy of Pleasanton; a son, Ray Mathis of Conroe; brother-in-law, Robert Mathis and wife Texann of Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Velma Blair, Dogwood Trails Assisted Living, and Solaris Hospice for the care given to her during her stay at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Rock Church or to a charity of choice.
